Hi there.
When we last spoke, I had written part one of a two-part piece on the story behind Swan Damage, the unreleased third album by Head Automatica. I had also promised a full interview with Daryl Palumbo to follow.
Shortly after I published that story, this happened:
My wife and I were involved in a head-on collision on a two-lane highway in a rural part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Short version: A 15-year-old with a learner’s permit made a very poor decision, and we paid for it. It sucked, but it could have sucked a lot worse. Everyone lived, but as a result, the past month or so has consisted of a whole lot of recovery along with a whole lot of physical and emotional stress due to a wide variety of issues. The biggest issue for me is both of my hands were injured in various ways in the crash, and as of today, my left hand — which is my dominant hand — has still not recovered at all.
As you can likely imagine, this makes typing very hard. (It physically hurts to even write this much.) This is agonizing as I have so much I want to write about, first of which would be transcribing my nearly 90-minute interview with Daryl Palumbo for the benefit of all of you.
I’m left with a few options:
Hire a transcription service, which will cost money I don’t have. (Who knew a person’s expenses would skyrocket after a traumatic car accident?)
Figure out how to turn the interview into a podcast and post it on here. (I don’t love this idea only because I feel like people wouldn’t be bothered to listen to the whole thing, but maybe I’m wrong?)
Wait until my left hand recovers more to type the whole damn thing out. (I begin physical therapy tomorrow so hopefully that will help expedite the process.)
If you have an idea, I’m open to hearing it.
To the new subscribers I picked up after part one of my Swan Damage story, I apologize for the prolonged wait. I hope you all understand and bear with me.
